Weekend Events Recap: What’s Happening Around South Slope

History In Your Hands: Games
When: Saturday, December 14, 2pm to 4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Ditch the Xbox and bring the kids over to Prospect Park’s Lefferts House on Saturday afternoon for a game of Nine Man Morris. Afterwards you can make your own game board to take home. Families can also take part in an epic battle of checkers, or hoop racing in the yard.
How much: $3 suggested donation

Santa at Has Beans
When: Saturday, December 14, 3:30pm to 5pm
Where: 620 Fifth Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Nobody wants to spend their weekend standing in line at Macy’s. Santa will set up residence at Has Beans this Saturday, so stay local and bring the kids out to say hello.
How much: Free!

Santa at Southside Coffee
When: Sunday, December 15, 11am to 1pm
Where: 652 Sixth Avenue at 19th Street
What: Couldn’t make it to Has Beans on Saturday? Santa apparently LOVES South Slope (who can blame him) and will return to the hood on Sunday, this time at 6th Avenue’s Southside Coffee.
How much: Free!

Gifts: A New Holiday Play By Letter Of Marque Theatre Co.
When: Sunday, December 15 and Monday, December 16, 7:30pm
Where: The Fifth Estate, 506 5th Avenue, between 12th and 13th Street
What: Come out to The Fifth Estate for an evening of holiday theatre. The Letter of Marque Theater Company presents their adaptation of O.Henry’s The Gift of the Magi, and offers “a tender glance at the line between giving for the sake of someone else’s happiness and giving for one’s own.”
How much: Free!

Jingle Bell Jamboree Holiday Concert And Sing-a-long
When: Sunday, December 15, 7pm
Where: Congregation Beth Elohim, 274 Garfield Place at 8th Avenue
What: It’s the neighborhood family event of the holiday season! Join the Park Slope Civic Council for the 13th Annual Jingle Bell Jamboree, a musical extravaganza featuring performances by the MS 51 Show Choir, The Mark Morris Dance Group’s Student Company, Purelements: An Evolution in Dance – Jr. Company, The Bright Siders, and The Brooklyn Community Chorus. There will also be a festive sing-a-long throughout the show, which includes The 12 Days of Christmas grand finale performance by the entire audience.
How much: There is a suggested $10 donation, but all proceeds go to expenses and the non-profit arts organizations participating in the jamboree.

Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue Benefit
When: Sunday, December 15 – Saturday, December 21
Where: Mary’s Bar, 708 5th Avenue at 22nd Street
What: Drink for a good cause at Mary’s Bar! From December 15-December 21, $2 from every pint of Smuttynose Porter sold will be donated to Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue, “a network of fosters and volunteers that work together to rescue sweet, loving, adoptable dogs from high kill, rural shelters in the southern states.”
How much: Free to get in, pints are $6.
