New York African Food Festival

Where: Brooklyn Navy Yard (63 Flushing Avenue)
When: Saturday, August 13; Sunday, August 14
What: Traditional Nigerian dishes like Moi Moi (steamed bean pudding), Jollof, a popular rice staple from West Africa, Lahoh, a spongy, pancake-like bread from Somalia, and other mouth-watering seasoned dishes will be featured in New York’s first annual African Food Festival this weekend.
How much: Tickets start at $20

Dine In BK

When: August 11 – 22
Where: Selected Brooklyn restaurants
What: With dozens of top-rated eateries participating from Coney Island to Crown Heights, your next great food memory may be just a short stroll away. In the mood for Mexican? Try Maria’s Bistro Mexicano in Sunset Park. Have a craving for comfort food? Check out Station in Williamsburg.  Aspiring for African fare? Visit Amarachi in Downtown Brooklyn.
How much: $12 for a weekend brunch, $15 for a two-course lunch, and $28 for a three-course dinner.

Fort Greene Park Walt Whitman Tour

When: Saturday, August 13, 11:00 a.m.
Where: Fort Greene Park
What: Join the Fort Greene Park Conservancy for a 90-minute walking tour exploring Fort Greene Park, its history, and connection to one of the park’s greatest advocates, Walt Whitman.Tour includes special musical performances of Whitman’s poetry set to verse by professional opera singer Jorell Williams.
How much: Free, but RSVP through Eventbrite.

Greenlight Story Time: Books at the Market (Off Site)

When: Saturday, August 13, 9:00 a.m.
Where: Fort Greene Park Greenmarket (Washington Park between DeKalb & Willoughby Avenues)
What: Join Greenlight booksellers for an interactive story time featuring our favorite picture books, both classic and contemporary, as a summer treat for our neighborhood’s young families. They will also have some giveaways and simple activities for the youngest book lovers. Greenlight will be at the Parkside Greenmarket (near Flatbush and Fenimore) on Sunday, August 14. All ages are welcome.
How much: Free!

Drink & Draw At The Way Station

When: Saturday, August 13, 3:30 p.m. -5:30 p.m.
Where: The Way Station (683 Washington Ave.)
What: The Way Station promises a good time with an afternoon filled with artists and cheap booze. So, bring your artists tools, there’s room for creativity at this Doctor Who themed bar.
How much: Admission price is $10.
