Hip Hop Dance Aerobics at Brooklyn Bridge Park

Where: Brooklyn Bridge Park, Granite Terrace
What: Waterfront Workouts presents a cardiovascular workout, teaching step by step movements with fun choreography to get your feet moving and your heart pumping. Register and sign the waiver at 6:30 pm before each class.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream at BAM

Drag Queen Story Hour: Ona Louise presents Tatterhood
When: 11am
Where: Greenlight Bookstore, 686 Fulton Street at South Portland
What: Join Greenlight Bookstore and The Feminist Press for a one-of-a-kind story time for all ages. Ona Louise will share a story from Tatterhood, the 1978 bestseller newly reissued in an illustrated, four-volume series. In the first volume, tales from Japan, Norway, Scotland, and Sudan feature decisive heroines of extraordinary courage, wit, and achievement — reminding us that girls everywhere have always been the heroes of their own stories.

Adoptapalooza
When: August 6, 12pm-5pm
Where: Prospect Park West and 15th Street (Bartel-Pritchard Square.
What: The Alliance for NYC’s Animals is holding a mega pet-adoption event where over 150 dogs and cats from more than a dozen rescue organizations will be available to fall in love with. Bring the whole family for an afternoon of frolicking and fun with happy animals looking for a happy home. See our preview article here.

BAM CInemas presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream
When: 2pm
Where: Peter Jay Sharp Building at 30 Lafayette Avenue
What: Check out this visually breathtaking production, filmed from an earlier live performance of Shakespeare’s beloved comedy. Directed by Julie Taymor, starring David Harewood (Homeland) as Oberon, Max Casella (Vinyl, The Sopranos, and Endgame, Winter/Spring 2008) as Bottom, and Kathryn Hunter as Puck,  check out the trailer here!

International Day of Friendship festival in Downtown Brooklyn
When: Sunday, August 7 from 1pm to 5pm.
Where: Parade starts at Fulton Street & Flatbush Avenue and continues toward Brooklyn Heights. Performances  and food at Brooklyn Borough Hall & Columbus Park through 5pm.
What: Join Brooklyn Boro President Eric Adams at the third annual International Day of Friendship celebration, recognizing hundreds of cultures and ethnicities that make Brooklyn the center of diversity. The Unity Parade of Flags features flags of 195 nations; performances from New Yorkers who represent more than 80 countries plus dancers, drummers, stilt walkers, and a taste of international cuisine.

Movie Night at Habana Outpost: Risky Business
When: 8PM
Where: Habana Outpost (757 Fulton Street)
What: Grab a bite and relax with this 1983 comedy that Vogue calls ” one of the best American movies of the eighties”, starring Tom Cruise and Rebecca De Mornay.
How much: Get some food. The movie is free once you’re seated.
