Weekend Crime Blotter: Suspect Arrested In Home Invasion, Subway Assaults, And More

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT – The NYPD announced on Friday that a suspect was arrested in connection to the death of 91-year-old Waldiman Thompson during a recent home invasion/robbery in Bed-Stuy.

Dwayne Blackwood, 27, of East New York was arrested last week and charged with second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree assault, and two counts of burglary.

On October 11, police responded to a call at a residence located on Decatur Street near Marcus Garvey Boulevard.

According to reports, 100-year-old Ethlin Thompson told the officers that unknown people followed her into her ground-floor apartment and tied up her and her husband before ransacking their home. According to the New York Daily News, the suspects stole $5,000 from the couple.

After the suspects left, Ethlin was able to untie herself and call 911. When police arrived to the scene, they found her husband, Waldiman Thompson, lying on the floor, still tied up and unresponsive. EMS transported him to Interfaith Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Ethlin’s injuries were not serious.

Funeral services were held for Thompson on Friday, October 20—the same day police arrested Blackwood.

Police say they are still searching for a second suspect. The investigation is ongoing.

SUNSET PARK –  The NYPD is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the man seen in the surveillance photo below in connection to an assault on the “R” train last Friday afternoon.

At approximately 3:45pm on Friday, October 20, police say that the suspect stepped on a 30-year-old man’s foot while the two were traveling on a southbound “R” train. When the victim confronted the suspect, the suspect reportedly punched the victim in the face, knocking him to the floor of the subway. The suspect continued to punch and kick the victim in the head and face while he was down, according to police.

The suspect fled the subway car when it entered the 4th Avenue and 36th Street subway station and reportedly hopped on a southbound “D” train. EMS transported the victim to Lutheran Hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

Police describe the suspect as a white male, approximately 17- to 19-years-old, 5′ 10″, and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black jeans, white sneakers, and carrying a black book bag.

BUSHWICK – The NYPD is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect seen in the below surveillance photo in connection to a robbery that occurred earlier this month.

Police say at approximately 5:35pm on Saturday, October 7, a 23-year-old woman was on the balcony of her apartment located within the vicinity of Flushing Avenue and Cook Street when the suspect snuck into her home and removed $306. The suspect punched the woman in her face when she confronted him, then fled the scene, according to police. The victim suffered a cut to her nose and forehead.

Police describe the suspect as a black male with a gray afro, approximately 50- to 60-years-old, and 5′ 10″ tall. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black hoodie, and dark colored sweatpants.

WILLIAMSBURG – The NYPD is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect seen in the below photo in connection to an assault that occurred at the Metropolitan Avenue subway station two weeks ago.

According to police, at approximately 8:45am on Friday, October 13, a 26-year-old woman was exiting the southbound G train at the Metropolitan Avenue subway station when she and the suspect bumped into each other. The suspect began to curse at the woman and threatened to slap her as she walked up the platform stairs. The suspect then attempted to choke the woman, putting her hands around her neck, but was stopped by a passerby, police say.

The victim then walked to the L train platform where she sat on a bench. The suspect followed the woman to the platform and began repeatedly punching her in the face and kicking her in the back. The suspect fled the station and took off in an unknown vehicle as a passenger, according to police.

EMS transported the victim to Woodhull Hospital where she was treated for a broken nose and bruising to her face.

Police describe the suspect as black female, with a medium complexion, long black hair, approximately 35- to 45-years-old, 5 ‘5″ tall, and 155 pounds. She was last seen wearing a black tank top, dark red pants, and brown boots.

MIDWOOD – At approximately 8:55am on Sunday, October 22, police responded to a 911 call at Kenilworth Place near Glenwood Road where they found 11-month-old Samuel Agustin unconscious and unresponsive.

EMS transported the child to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the police report.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of the child’s death.
