Weekend Crime Blotter: Stranger Attacks in Sheepshead Bay, Shooting in Crown Heights & More

SHEEPSHEAD BAY – Police are looking for a man in connection with a seemingly unprovoked assault of an off-duty cop walking his dog on a Sheepshead Bay street last week.

On Thursday, November 8, around 9:00 am, police said the suspect walked up to a 29-year-old man near Williams Court and East 11th Street and threatened him in Russian before striking him in the head with an unknown object.

The attack left the victim with a fractured cheekbone and lacerations to the face, said police. He was taken to Lutheran Hospital by EMS, where he was treated and released.

CROWN HEIGHTS – After a shooting at the Kingsborough Houses earlier this month, police have released video of the incident in hopes the public will be able to help identify the suspect.

On Sunday, November 4, the 30-year-old male victim was walking on 135 Kingsborough 1 Walk around 8:00 pm, police said. An unidentified male approached the victim, firing several shots from a handgun, one of which struck the victim in the elbow.

The shooter fled in a burgundy Jeep Grand Cherokee, police said. The victim was transported to Kings County Hospital by EMS.

BED-STUY – A stolen wallet led police to a Bed-Stuy deli, where a suspect used the victim’s credit card to go shopping at the Nostrand Avenue corner store.

The victim first noticed his wallet missing outside 147 Halsey Street, in Bed-Stuy on Sunday, October 21, police said. Later that day, unauthorized charges were made with his missing credit card at the bodega just down the street, at the corner of Nostrand and Halsey.

BED-STUY – Finally, police announced they’ve arrested two individuals in connection with crimes and harassment against the Orthodox Jewish community in Bed-Stuy.

The first incident took place last week, when a group of teenagers threw a metal pipe through the window of Synagogue Volkan, on Franklin Avenue.

Shortly thereafter, police learned the same group also harassed a 14-year old Orthodox boy, knocking his hat off his head on the street.

Now, police say they have two of the teens in custody. A 13-year-old boy has been charged with criminal mischief in the 4th degree, a hate crime, and a 14-year-old boy has been charged with aggravated harassment in the 2nd degree, based on race or religion.

The names of the minors in custody have not been released by the police department.
