Weekend Crime Blotter: Off-Duty Cop Shoots Man in Wheelchair, 81-Year Old Thwarts Knife-Wielding Robber & More

EAST FLATBUSH – In the early hours of Sunday, around 2:45 am, an off-duty cop shot and wounded an armed man in a wheelchair outside an East Flatbush house party.

The shooting took place Sunday, August 19, when the victim began firing a gun outside a party at 145 East 43rd Street, police said. An off-duty officer was present and returned fire, striking the shooter one time in the hip.

A 911 call was made, with police and EMS arriving to the scene. The man in the wheelchair was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. The officer involved in the shooting was unharmed, but taken to Methodist Hospital for evaluation, said police.

A .38 caliber revolver was recovered at the scene, though police said it wasn’t immediately clear why the victim began firing his gun in the first place. There were no other injuries, and an investigation is ongoing by NYPD’s Force Investigation Division.

BED-STUY – Yet another man is wanted for lewd behavior on the subway, this time on a southbound C train heading to Bed-Stuy.

Police said that around 8:20 am on Friday, August 17, the suspect was on the C train approaching Nostrand Avenue station when he began touching himself inappropriately, then exposed himself to a 26-year old woman.

CROWN HEIGHTS – Police are looking for the suspect who attempted to rob an elderly woman at knifepoint earlier this month in Crown Heights.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 1, at the corner of Nostrand Avenue and Eastern Parkway, around 8:00 pm,  said police. The suspect approached the 81-year old victim while brandishing a knife and demanding cash, then tried to steal the victim’s purse.

The suspect was unsuccessful, fleeing northbound on Nostrand and leaving the victim unharmed, police said.

WILLIAMSBURG – Finally, police have released video of a delivery man in Williamsburg wanted for forcibly touching a young woman while making a food delivery late last month.

Police said the victim ordered delivery to an apartment near Johnson Avenue and Humbolt Street around 5:00 am on Sunday, July 22. The suspect arrived with the food and asked the 22-year old woman if he could use her bathroom. The victim agreed, but when the suspect entered her apartment he began to fondle her breasts and genitals, said police.

The victim resisted and the suspect fled in an unknown direction. Security footage of the deliveryman can be seen below:
