Weekend Crime Blotter: Slashings, Purse-Snatchings, A Livery Cab Driver Robbed & More

PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENS – A livery cab driver was robbed Friday night in PLG, but the suspects didn’t realize he had a camera running in the car—now, police are trying to track them down.

Around 11:20 pm on Friday, July 27, the 36-year old male driver had just dropped off a passenger at 191 Lefferts, near Rogers Avenue, when the 4 suspects approached his vehicle, police said. They forced him into the back seat, entering the vehicle and rifling through it for things to steal. One of the suspects flashed a gun in the process, said police, and the suspects ended up stealing the victim’s cell phone and about $1200 in cash from his wallet.

The suspects fled the scene on foot to parts unknown and, luckily, left the victim unharmed. Police have released video of the incident below:

DOWNTOWN – A rush hour argument in a Downtown subway station turned violent last week when a man pulled a knife at Jay Street Metrotech.

The incident occurred around 5:00 pm on Tuesday, July 24, said police, as two men argued on the mezzanine of the Jay Street AC subway station. The argument turned physical and the suspect pulled a knife, slashing his 49-year old male victim on the right arm before fleeing to the street, said police.

The attacker escaped and the victim refused medical attention at the scene. Police have released surveillance images of the suspect, which can be seen below:

FLATLANDS – Police are looking for the woman that broke into the home of a 90-year old and stole a number of items while the elderly woman was still home.

The burglary took place on Monday, July 23, around 4:45 pm, said police, at a residence in the area of Avenue L and East 48th Street. The suspect entered through an unsecured door, stealing around $2000 of jewelry and silverware, said police.

While the burglar fled on foot to parts unknown, she was caught on surveillance video—which can be seen below:

CYPRESS HILLS – A five-man melee outside of the Caoba Brooklyn Bistro in Cypress Hills last weekend sent three victims to the hospital, said police.

The fight broke out around 4:30 am on Sunday, July 22, at the restaurant and bar located at 100 Jamaica Avenue, said police. Three men faced off against two in an argument that boiled over into a fight that wound up with all three victims injured. A 26-year old was slashed in the back of the neck, a 25-year old was slashed in the face and a 24-year old was punched in the face, said police. No weapon was recovered.

All three men were taken to Brookdale Hospital by EMS, where they were treated and released, said police. The attackers fled, but one can be seen on surveillance video below:

EAST FLATBUSH – Police are looking for the man who snatched an unattended purse from the counter of an East Flatbush liquor store earlier this month.

On Friday, July 13, a 68-year old woman entered Derby Liquor Store, at 2123 Nostrand Avenue, around 7:30 pm. According to police, the woman had placed her purse on the counter of the shop when a man snatched it up and fled. He got away with her credit cards, a Metrocard, and about $20.
