Weekend Art Events: November 2-5 (Celebrate Day Of The Dead, Smash Pumpkins & More)

Halloween has come and gone and it’s gotten considerably colder out.

The flurry of events from last week leading up to October 31 has tapered down, but there are still lots of cool things to see and do this weekend.

El Día de los Muertos Celebration
When: Thursday, November 2, 3:30pm to 8pm
Where: Sunset Park Library, 5108 4th Avenue (at 51st Street), Sunset Park
What: Join the Sunset Park Library to celebrate El Día de los Muertos with DIY Arts & Craft projects followed by snacks and refreshments and a performance by the Capulli Youth Dance.

DUMBO First Thursday Gallery Walk
When: Thursday, November 2, 6pm to 8pm
Where: Various venues in DUMBO
What: November’s Gallery Walk features Everything You’ve Ever Wanted, a multi-artist fundraiser; Danilo Correale’s At Work’s End, a multimedia exhibition examining hopes and anxieties in an era of increased automation; and Alfred Leslie’s The World is Charged with the Grandeur of God presenting seven large Pixel Score prints of literary characters.

The Visitation
When: Friday, November 3 (8pm), Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5 (7pm)
Where: The Wyckoff House, 5816 Clarendon Road, East Flatbush
What: A new immersive theater experience staged inside The Wyckoff House–the oldest house in NYC. Audiences follow the performance throughout the house as the characters search for the truth following a young girl’s claim of witchcraft.

Pumpkin Smash Potato Bake Bash
When: Saturday, November 4, 12pm to 4pm
Where: Prospect Heights Community Farm, St. Marks Avenue between Vanderbilt & Underhill Avenues, Prospect Heights
What: Join Prospect Heights Community Farm’s 19th annual Pumpkin Smash Potato Bake Bash and smash your old jack-o-lanterns in the compost and enjoy baked potatoes, hot cider, and baked treats

Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Tour @ Brooklyn SolarWorks Workshop & Roof Deck
When: Saturday, November 4, 1pm to 2:30pm
Where: Brooklyn SolarWorks, 200 6th Street, Gowanus
What: The New York Adventure Club hosts this tour of a solar panel assembly workshop in which attendees will climb a ladder to view a solar canopy in action and learn all about solar panel technology.

Target First Saturdays at Brooklyn Museum
When: Saturday, November 4, 5pm to 11pm
Where: Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway, Prospect Heights
What: This edition of Target First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum features musical performances by Alsarah & the Nubatones, Phony Ppl, and DJ Ian Friday; dance performances presented by the Brooklyn Dance Festival; and gallery tours of Judy Chicago’s The Dinner Party as well as the Soulful Creatures: Animal Mummies in Ancient Egypt exhibition.

goodgood Haunted House | An Eerie Art Show

Where: Studio 301 NYC, 301 Ten Eyck Street, East Williamsburg
What: This artist collective presents an exhibition featuring work exploring the artists’ visual interpretations of what haunts them. Many of these pieces were specially created for this one-night show.

New York City Marathon
When: Sunday, November 5, 9am

What: Join the expected 2.5 million spectators cheering from the sidelines for the 50,000 runners participating in this year’s marathon.

Petra and the Wolf
When: Sunday, November 5, 2pm
Where: On Stage at Kingsborough, 2001 Oriental Boulevard, Manhattan Beach
What: A performance inspired by the Prokofiev classic Peter and the Wolf featuring large-scale puppetry and live music. Meet the granddaughter of the fabled Peter, the mischievous but fearless Petra, whose adventures showcase her bravery and compassion when a wolf threatens her home.
