Weekend Art Events: December 7-10 (Alt-SantaCon, Photos With Santa, Holiday Windows & More)

Tis the season—there are lots of holiday fairs, markets, and pop-ups to shop this weekend for all your gifting needs.

There are also two interactive, immersive art events, a photography exhibit, DUMBO’s First Thursday gallery walk, and an anti-Santa Con pub crawl in Gowanus.

Suddenly
When: Wednesday, December 6 through Saturday, December 9, 7:30pm
Where: BAM Fisher, 321 Ashland Place, Fort Greene
What: Israeli director Zvi Sahar and PuppetCinema adapt Tel Aviv-based writer Etgar Keret’s dark short story collection Suddenly, A Knock on the Door for the stage, using  cameras, puppets, and object theater to bring audiences into a dystopian world where a writer must create, no matter the cost, ultimately finding freedom in his fiction.

When: Thursday, December 7, 5pm to 8pm (opening reception)
Where: Green In Brooklyn, 432 Myrtle Avenue, Clinton Hill
What: See Brooklyn neighborhoods like never before—through the eyes of photographer Gregoire Ganter. The artist will present his full Brooklyn Neighborhoods collection as well as new works.

DUMBO First Thursday Gallery Walk
When: Thursday, December 7, 6pm to 8pm
Where: Various venues in DUMBO
What: The first Thursday of each month, DUMBO galleries stay open late and host special events and receptions while neighborhood restaurants and bars offer specials for First Thursday visitors. Highlights for December’s Gallery Walk include a silkscreening workshop with artists Jeff Kurosaki and Tara Pelletier with a performance by their band Hot Temper at Smack Mellon; and an opening reception for Claire Rosen’s Imaginarium, featuring photography tableaux of anthropomorphic animals, archetypal heroines, and symbolic still lifes at United Photo Industries.

CAMBA’s 21st Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony
When: Thursday, December 7, 6:30pm to 8pm
Where: CAMBA Park Slope Women’s Shelter, 1402 8th Avenue (between 14th & 15th Streets), Park Slope
What: CAMBA residents, staff, and volunteers invite neighbors to this annual celebration to share in the spirt of the season with a tree lighting, music, and refreshments.

Atlantic Avenue Walk the Windows
When: Saturday, December 9, 11am to 7pm
Where: Various shops along Atlantic Avenue, Boerum Hill/Cobble Hill/Brooklyn Heights
What: Explore Atlantic Avenue and enjoy free events & offers from participating businesses—just look for the red balloons. Enjoy the festive holiday windows, special events, live music, free holiday treats, and a visit from Santa Claus while shopping and dining on Atlantic Avenue. There will be special performances and promotions throughout the day at the Atlantic Avenue Holiday Tree located in front of the The Belarusian Church at 401 Atlantic Avenue (corner of Bond Street). Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue Adoption Event
When: Saturday, December 9, 12pm to 2pm
Where: The Yard, 157 13th Street, Gowanus
What: Meet some Badass dogs looking for a new home. You can submit an application in advance to get the process going. Same day applications will not be accepted. You can see photos of some of the available cuties here.

Interference Archive Holiday Sale and Open House
When: Saturday, December 9, 12pm to 5pm
Where: Interference Archive, 314 7th Street, Park Slope
What: Visit Interference Archive’s new home and do some holiday shopping. Along with Interference Archive merchandise, Justseeds Artists Cooperative and Common Notions will be on-hand selling prints and books and Our Comics, Ourselves will be selling comics, zines, and posters.

What: ESSENCE hosts this event celebrating black culture through music, art, and technology, staged in an interactive, multi-sensory playground. Musical performances by Young Paris, LION BABE, and more.

Alt-SantaCon Gowanus Pub Crawl
When: Saturday, December 9, 2pm to 2am
Where: Various venues in Gowanus
What: Avoid the drunken Santa bros and enjoy drink specials at some of your favorite Gowanus watering holes including, Parklife (636 Degraw), Canal Bar (270 3rd Ave), Dirty Precious (317 3rd Ave), Lucky 13 Saloon (644 Sackett), Royal Palms Shuffleboard (514 Union), and The Sackett Bar (661 Sackett). Dress as the grinch or scrooge, or throw on your tackiest holiday sweater—prizes will be given for most creative Anti-SantaCon interpretation.

Live Stream // Fever Dream

What: Artist collective Hidden Currencies presents a large-scale immersive installation experience featuring interactive sculpture, dance, music, performance art, film, and good tidings. Live music by Twin Primes, O Paradiso, MAIDN, and Dey. Open bar courtesy of Brooklyn Brewery.

Gifts By Artists Opening Reception + Holiday Show
When: Exhibit on view from Saturday, December 2 through Sunday, December 31; opening reception Thursday, December 7, 6pm to 9pm
Where: Ground Floor Gallery, 343 5th Street, Park Slope
What: Ground Floor Gallery is hosting its 5th Annual Holiday Show, featuring small, unique gifts created by more than 50 artists. Most works on sale will be less than $100 and include ceramics, jewelry, small paintings, gift tags, ornaments, scarves, and other creative gift ideas.

Photos With Santa
When: Sunday, December 10, 10:30am to 12pm
Where: The Old Stone House, 336 3rd Street, Park Slope
What: The Old Stone House, Park Slope Parents, and Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID host the third annual Photos With Santa event. Photos will be taken by photographer Marc Goldberg on a first come, first serve basis. His professional pics will be available on his website for purchase, and attendees can snap their own shots as well.
How Much: $10

Greenpoint Holiday Market
When: Sunday December 10 from 12pm to 6pm
Where: Threes @ Franklin + Kent, 113 Franklin Street, Greenpoint
What: For the first three Sundays of December, Threes Brewing is hosting a holiday market featuring gift items from select local vendors. The brewery is also hosting a Holiday Pop-Up at its Gowanus location at 333 Douglass Street on the same three Sundays—December 3, 10, and 17.
