The Importance Of Being Human And The Role Of Literature In Moral Reasoning

What: Does merely being human matter? The monthly series Brooklyn Public Philosophers presents the New School’s Alice Crary, who will share her work on the moral importance of humanity, intellectual disability, and the role of literature in moral reasoning.

What: Whether you’re chosen to tell your 5-minute story or you just get to listen to others, this month’s topic — accident — should be a pretty compelling one. The winning storyteller of the night gets to move on to a GrandSlam Championship.

Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: Brooklyn’s premier monthly punning competition is back in all its linguistic glory. The event is open to all, but only 18 spots are reserved for competitors who want to participate in competitive spontaneous pun-making, and they go to individuals or duos on a first-come/first-served basis.
How much: $6 in advance, $7 at the door.
Film Screening: Touch Of Evil
When: Wednesday, November 5, 6:30pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: The 1958 classic from director Orson Welles, who also stars in it, this south-of-the-border mystery is full of corruption, vengeance, and intrigue.

Téa Obreht And Alexi Zentner In Conversation With Sharon Guskin

What: Adelphi University’s Literary Encounters series features two literary professionals at different places in their careers showcasing their talents, perspectives, and approaches to their work. This one features Téa Obreht, author of The Tiger’s Wife, and Alexi Zentner, author of Touch and The Lobster Kings, in conversation with novelist Sharon Guskin.
