So, yeah, it’s about to get really, really cold. If your apartment’s heat can’t keep up, why not head out to a place with lots of people — just think of all the body heat! Here are some great ways to get warm in the neighborhood this week:

The Moth StorySlam
When: Monday, January 6, 8pm (doors 7:30pm)
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: Whether you’re chosen to tell your 5-minute story or you just get to listen to others, the juicy topic this month — vices — is sure to be compelling enough to keep your mind off the windchill for a while. The winning storyteller of the night gets to move on to a GrandSlam Championship.
How much: $8 at the door

Knights Of Bruklyn Home Brew Competition
When: Tuesday, January 7, 7pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Nothing like beer to warm you up — except, perhaps, free beer. Members meet quarterly to compete with their home brewed concoctions, and you are welcome to come and give the brews a taste! And if you’re still not thawed, there’s a cheap comedy show downstairs at 8:30pm.
How much: Free!

Brooklyn By The Book: Chang-rae Lee
When: Tuesday, January 7, 7pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Prefer a less boozy evening of entertainment? The author, in conversation with Laurie Muchnick, may prove just as intoxicating as a home brew competition as he discusses his new novel

On Such a Full Sea

TriviaTryst
