Looking for something fun to do in the neighborhood this week? A chance to pretend you’re in sunny California, stories about birthdays, a free pub quiz, and more great events are coming up, details below:

Brooklyn By The Book: Ron Lieber
When: Monday, February 2, 7pm
Where: Congregation Beth Elohim, 271 Garfield Place
What: New York Times columnist Ron Lieber will discuss his new book, The Opposite of Spoiled, which explores the value of talking to kids frankly about money. To top it off, Ample Hills Creamery will debut the ice cream flavors Want and Need!
How much: $10 general admission; $7 for CBE members, Park Slope Parents members, and Brooklyn Public Library cardholders; available in advance.

The Moth StorySlam
When: Monday, February 2, 8pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: Whether you’re chosen to tell your 5-minute story or you just get to listen to others, this month’s topic — birthdays — should be a pretty festive one. The winning storyteller of the night gets to move on to a GrandSlam Championship.
How much: $8 at the door.

Community Land Access Workshop
When: Tuesday, February 3, 7pm
Where: Central Library, InfoCommons Lab, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Know of any empty, city-owned lot that you’d like to turn into a garden or use to host events? Learn how to access community resources, engage your neighbors, and use the 596 Acres map to gain access to city land for a community project.

TinyRhino: Twisted Tales
When: Tuesday, February 3, 8pm
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: In this monthly theatrical drinking game, TinyRhino commissions six playwrights to write new plays, each including the same five dramatic elements. Guests will be given a list of these elements, which could show up at any time, in any order, and with any frequency. When they do show up, it means — you guessed it — drink!
How much: $10, tickets available in advance.

Film Screening: A Man Called Adam
When: Wednesday, February 4, 7pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Sammy Davis, Jr. leads an all-star cast in this 1966 drama about the turbulent life of brilliant jazz musician Adam Johnson, a gifted artist whose art is shaped by the world he lives in.
How much: Free!

Endless Summer Beer Night
When: Wednesday, February 4, 7-10pm
Where: Mission Dolores, 249 4th Avenue
What: They’re going to crank the heat, blast the surf punk, and do whatever else it takes to pretend we’re in sunny California for a night, including pouring beers from Ballast Point, Green Flash, AleSmith, Stone, and more. Get in the spirit — Hawaiian shirts and low-rider bikes are encouraged, but not necessary.
How much: No cover.

Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz
When: Wednesday, February 4, 8:30pm
Where: The Rock Shop, 249 4th Avenue
What: Teams of up to six players will compete for bar gift certificates and bragging rights, plus there are chances to win free pints (or gift-certificate equivalents) for answering five bonus questions throughout the evening, and there are some kinds of “bizarre prizes” for their weekly Bonus Email Question.
