Weekday Fun: The Best Events December 16-18
Learn how to mix up the perfect old fashioned, grab some friends for trivia, and more fun events to start off the week right:
Triviacraft
When: Monday, December 16, 7:30pm
Where: The Gate, 321 5th Avenue
What: Bring your smarts and some clever friends — teams of up to 5 players are allowed — for the last TriviaNYC night at the bar before a short break for the holidays. They’ll have a special on Blue Point, $4 per pint, and prizes may very well include alcohol.
How much: Free!
Served Up: The Old Fashioned, Past & Present
When: Tuesday, December 17, 7pm
Where: Central Library, Info Commons Lab, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: At the first in the library’s cool new monthly series for winter, adults 21 and over can learn about the history of an essential but often misunderstood cocktail: the old fashioned. Bartender Benjamin Zorn will talk about where it came from, and will discuss the history of bitters and whiskey as well. Plus, taste a sample of the drink itself, concocted with a Brooklyn-made whiskey, so you know what you’re looking for when you head home to make it yourself.
How much: Free!
Pretty Good Friends Holiday Show
When: Tuesday, December 17, 9pm (doors 8:30pm)
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: We’re kind of surprised to see this show hasn’t sold out yet — generally if our neighbor Eugene Mirman is on the bill, by the time it’s the week of the event, tickets are no longer available. So jump on it before it’s too late, and you’ll catch him and fellow comedians Daniel Kitson, Derrick Brown, and Janelle James.
How much: $20, available in advance
Mission Dolores Holiday Party
When: Wednesday, December 18, 6-10pm
Where: Mission Dolores, 249 4th Avenue
What: They’ve got some of their favorite Christmas-y beers on tap and will be serving them up during the party, with some specials on the brews, plus sweet treats from the MD crew, and the yule log burning bright on the screen.
How much: Free!
