Where: Participating businesses along Myrtle Avenue, between Carlton and Classon Avenues

Conversations: Replicas of Masterwork Paintings

Where: Pratt Institute, President’s Office Gallery, Main Building via Willoughby Avenue
What: Professor of Fine Arts Frank Lind presents a body of work created over the course of the last 15 years, employing old master techniques in the re-creation, re-imagining, and “updating” of well-known masterwork paintings.

“Starting from Paumanok” Lecture Series: Gary Shteyngart
When: Monday, February 9 at 6:30pm
Where: LIU Brooklyn, Kumble Center at DeKalb and Flatbush Avenues
What: LIU Brooklyn’s “Starting from Paumanok” lecture series in American culture and literature, hosted by the English Department annually since 1983, takes its name from a Walt Whitman poem that first appeared in the 1860 edition of Leaves of Grass.

What: Greenlight Bookstore book group. This season’s theme is Identity. For February, the group discusses Clandestine in Chile by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Pest Control, The Green Way

What: Local pest control expert Naceo Giles talks the types of pests in our homes and businesses, how to “stop supporting” them and green ways to control them. Followed by a Q&A.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11
AARP Free Tax Help and Preparation
When: Wednesday, February 11 from 1-4pm
Where: Bedford Library at 496 Franklin Avenue
What: For low and middle income taxpayers. First come, first served. To file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms. For a list of documents you may need to bring, visit the AARP website.
Gallery Tour: “New York Focus”

Fort Greene Park Conservancy’s Love Our Lawn meeting

Where: Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church, Jarvie Room, at 85 South Oxford Street
What: Learn about efforts to improve the historic 30 acre park. Attendees will hear from a panel of experts including the new Fort Greene Park Director David Barker, NYC Parks Department staff, and special guests from Central Park Conservancy who will be discussing their experiences managing Central Park and “best practices” for growing lush green grass in an urban environment.
