Wednesday Crime Blotter: Bike Thief in Broadway Triangle, Handbag Shopping Spree With Stolen Credit Cards & More


DOWNTOWN – A woman stole a credit card on a southbound 2 train earlier this month, then turned right around and headed for Madison Avenue!

Police said the victim, a 57-year-old woman, first noticed her wallet was missing from her purse while aboard the 2 train at Borough Hall station, around 6:30 in the evening.

Surveillance video revealed that a woman used that credit card to make some splashy purchases in Midtown:  a $2,300 handbag at Yves Saint-Laurent, and another, for $2,700, at Barney’s.

After that, police said the suspect headed to Gap and attempted to buy $400 in gift cards, but found the credit card was declined.

CROWN HEIGHTS – Police are looking for a subway creepshot picture-taker in Crown Heights after an incident at the Utica Avenue station.

The suspect was on the 4 train at Utica Avenue Tuesday, August 28, around 8:00 pm when he laid down on the subway seat, placed his phone up a woman’s dress and took photos, police said.

WILLIAMSBURG – A man was caught on video stealing a child’s bike from in front of an apartment in Broadway Triangle, and now police are hoping to track him down.

The theft took place near Walton and Throop Avenues on Saturday, August 25, around 6:00 pm, police said. A man, pushing a cart with a bicycle on it, stopped outside a fenced-in porch, which had multiple bikes attached to it, and cut the lock of one bike, throwing it on top of his cart before continuing on his way.

EAST NEW YORK – Finally, police are re-upping their call for public assistance in tracking down a pair of robbers that stole from a man at an East New York L train station late last month.

The incident took place on Saturday, August 25, around 2:45 pm at the Livonia Avenue station. As the 18-year old male victim was walking up the stairs to the platform, he was grabbed by an unknown man who threatened to hit him, said police.

The suspect rummaged the victim’s pockets, stealing an iPhone 8 Plus. A second robber approached and took two shopping bags from the victim, before both fled to parts unknown, leaving the victim unharmed.
