Wednesday Crime Blotter: Multiple Shooting Assaults, Bed-Stuy Burglars Charge Stolen Credit Cards & More

CONEY ISLAND – A New York firefighter was arrested last night at his home in Coney Island, said police.

Nelson Merizalde, 43, an off-duty FDNY firefighter was arrested last night around 11:40 pm, said police. Merizalde was charged with assault after allegedly throwing his girlfriend to the floor during an argument, the Daily News reported.

EAST NEW YORK – Police are looking for a man wanted in connection with a shooting last week in East New York that wounded a bystander.

The incident occurred around 7:30 pm at 387 Shepherd Avenue, just off Pitkin Ave, on Friday, June 22, said police. The suspect pulled out and fired a gun that struck a 39-year old victim in the hip.

Responding EMS transported the victim to Brookdale Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries, while the suspect fled west down Glenmore Avenue. Surveillance video of the fleeing suspect can be seen below:

DOWNTOWN – After a scuffle at the Jay Street-MetroTech Station, police are looking for a man who fled the fight on a southbound F train last Wednesday.

Around 11:40 pm on June 20, a verbal altercation turned physical on the southbound A platform, said police, when the suspect punched a 59-year old man, knocking him to the ground, where the victim’s head was cut.

The victim was taken to Methodist Hospital where he was treated and released, while the suspect fled on the F train to parts unknown. Surveillance footage of the suspect can be seen below:

EAST FLATBUSH – After a shooting assault on two men in East Flatbush earlier this month, police are asking the public for their help in identifying the shooter.

The attack occurred around 8:30 pm on Sunday, June 17, said police, near Lefferts Avenue and Troy Avenue. Approaching the two victims outside a residence, the shooter pulled a gun and fired at least three times, striking a 28-year old man in the hip and a 24-year old man in the torso, said police.

EMS transported both victims to a nearby hospital, where the former was listed in stable condition, and the latter in critical condition when they were removed, said police.

BED-STUY – Police are looking for two men wanted for residential burglary and making fraudulent purchases in a crime caper that took place earlier this month in Bed-Stuy.

On Saturday, June 16, around 3:45 pm, the two men broke into a residence near Nostrand and Gates Avenues, entering through an unlocked front door, said police. Inside, the burglars stole a laptop, a cell phone, and credit cards.

Stolen credit cards in hand, the two men made their way down to Game Place, at 542 Nostrand, at Fulton Street. There, they used the cards to purchase electronics, said police.
