Wednesday Crime Blotter: Drug Store Robbers Grab Rogaine in Greenpoint, Daycare Burglar Foiled By Gate in Midwood & More

MIDWOOD – A burglar broke into the N.Y.L. Midwood League Daycare earlier this week, but left empty-handed. Still, police are on the lookout for the would-be burglar.

On Monday, October 29, the suspect forced open the doors to the daycare at 1520 East 13th Street around 4:30 am. Once inside, however, he was foiled by a security gate and unable to get past the foyer, police said. The burglar broke into a closet, but didn’t see anything worth taking, apparently—he fled empty-handed.

BROWNSVILLE – Police are looking for a man who violated a restraining order in Brownsville in an act of criminal contempt.

Rohan Bablington, 43, approached a 38-year-old woman and threatened her with violence near Riverdale Avenue and Bristol Street on Sunday, October 28, around 10:45 pm, police said. The woman called 911 and Bablington fled the scene, police said.

BED-STUY – An apparently unprovoked assault in Bed-Stuy has police searching for a suspect who was caught on surveillance video.

The attack came on Friday, October 26, around 2:40 pm, police said. The 58-year-old victim was walking near Jefferson Avenue and Marcus Garvey Boulevard when the suspect approached him from behind and punched him in the face, then fled the scene.

The victim was taken to Brooklyn Hospital in stable condition. Surveillance video of the suspect can be seen below:


GREENPOINT – Police are looking for a pair of drug-store bandits who have hit up the same Rite-Aide in Greenpoint twice this month.

First, on Tuesday, October 16, one of the duo entered the store at 783 Manhattan Avenue around 5:00 pm and stole Nexium, Prilosec, and Crest white strips, according to police.

Then, on Wednesday, October 24, he returned to the store with an accomplice, this time around 3:30 am, police said. This time, they boosted Rogaine, Mucinex, Culturelle, Nexium, Prilosec, Align, Zyrtec, Allegra, and Nasacort before fleeing.

SUNSET PARK – Three individuals assaulted and robbed a 19-year-old in Sunset Park earlier this month, and now police are looking for help in tracking them down.

On Monday, October 8, the victim was walking in front of 619 56 Street, near 6th Avenue, around 2:00 pm, said police. Three suspects in their late teens snuck up behind him, pushing him to the ground and punching and kicking him about the body and head, police said.

The suspects used a knife to cut the straps of the victim’s backpack and stole it, fleeing the scene. The victim was treated for a laceration to his head at NYU Langone Medical Center—Booklyn and later released, police said.

BROWNSVILLE – Police really don’t want to let this one go: with the 3rd re-release, they are still looking for the man that ripped the necklace from a straphanger at the Rockaway Avenue 3 station at the beginning of the month.

The robbery took place around 3:00 pm on Tuesday, October 2, police said. Approaching a 24-year-old woman from behind, the robber placed the woman in a chokehold, then snatched the necklace from her neck. He then pushed her to the ground and fled, disappearing into the nearby Marcus Garvey Village housing complex, police said.

EMS treated the victim at the scene for some bruising to her neck. Surveillance footage of the suspect can be seen below:
