We Miss You, Velda Louison

Neighbor Ben sends this photo of Argyle and Cortelyou Roads this morning, concerned about the lack of a crossing guard at the busy intersection.

Between the Tot Lot, PS 139, and the library, this seems like an prime spot for a guard–especially considering the recent roadwork that’s left the stretch of Cortelyou without marked crosswalks.

For over 20 years, neighbor Velda Louison manned the intersection, but recent sporadic replacements have paled in comparison (learn about Velda in this article, written by Mary in February 2011). And now, it seems as if there’s no one shuttling kids safely across the increasingly-busy road at all.
