We Love All of You

You search for Ditmas Park, and come to this site. You’ve fallen in love with the neighborhood and decide to visit one of the open houses/rental listings you saw featured on any given Friday. Maybe you’re lucky, and the legendary Mary Kay Gallagher finds you a house or an apartment, and you call Mark Cincotta at Fairview Mortgage Company for a loan. Before long The Super Movers  have moved you to the neighborhood (and you’d get here faster if you decide to rent – though, most apartments are spacious compared to other neighborhoods, so you might still have a lot of boxes).

You walk over to Cortelyou Hardware, and Sam makes you a spare set of keys. On your way back home, you stop in at Sycamore for a drink, and leave with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers.

You meet some local parents at Lark Cafe, and sign yourself and kids up for classes at Urban Martial Arts, should the skills come in handy if someone tries to snatch your iGadget. As you unpack, you find the guitar you haven’t touched since high school and you call Matt at Ditmas Park Guitar Studio to schedule a refresher. While you’re at it, might as well sign up your kids for some piano lessons with Amy Deal, or Forte Piano Studio where the first lesson is free!

Mary Van Vliet of Olive Design is coming over to help you make up your mind on those finishing touches that make a place a home, and you’ll be stopping by Collyer’s Mansion on Stratford, where Mauri has set aside some pillows for you to look at. You have Tom Towle restoring some cabinetry or installing that IKEA kitchen you thought you could do yourself…when your sink clogs and you realize you forgot to check the sewer lines in your home inspection, and now you need to call Eddie from Victor Sewer & Drain (lucky for you there is 10% discount if you mention DPCorner).

You can’t find your glasses, and that slip, trip, and fall lands you in care at Ditmas Rehab. Distressed, you call Ann and Boni of Small World Pet Sitters & Dog Walkers, and instantly feel better – they’ve got it covered. They will even take care of the turtle, bunnies, and chickens. They notice Daisy, Cody, and Max could be better behaved, and suggest you make an appointment with Marion Weiner of It’s a Dog’s World. (Dr. Perry of Pawsitive Veterinary will make sure they have all the shots needed to rumpus on the off leash hours in Prospect Park.) Once discharged, you get your replacement glasses from Dr. Valme at Grace Eye Care on Cortelyou pronto, and book a restorative session with Melanie at Karuna Acupuncture. You’ve learned balance is key – from now on you’ll be a regular at Jaya Yoga studio.

All this is exhausting and you head to Ox Cart Tavern, where Chef David Pitula whips up some serious burgers. You linger. And linger. It’s a happy place. Feeling much better already, you schedule a session with RJ of RJ Lewis Photography to take some pictures of the family, friends, and your new home. The housewarming party will be catered by Joe Brancaccio of Brancaccio’s Food Shop, spirits will come from  T.B. Ackerson Wine Merchants (aren’t you glad there’s a discount if you order a case?).  On your way home, you pick up breakfast ingredients at the Flatbush Food Co-op (open from 6am till midnight), and are glad that you don’t need to be a member to shop there. But you’ll be a member soon. You make a note to stop by and get a cut from Leon’s Fantasy Cuts before the party.
