[UPDATE] Water Main Break Causes Sinkhole In Manhattan Beach

[UPDATED: Wednesday, January 3, 9:35am] Council Member Deutsch posted a follow-up message to his Facebook page Tuesday night announcing that repairs to the water main have been completed and that water service has been restored for all residents and businesses.

MANHATTAN BEACH – Council Member Chaim Deutsch (District 48) posted a message to his Facebook page this morning informing neighbors that a water main break at the corner West End Avenue and Oriental Boulevard has caused a six-foot-wide sinkhole.

The sinkhole reportedly “caused a NYC bus to ‘sink’ into it” on Monday, according to the Manhattan Beach Community Group.

“DEP [Department of Environmental Protection] was immediately dispatched to the scene and is currently working at the site to repair the water main,” Deutsch’s message states. Approximately 30 homes and 4 businesses in the vicinity are affected and currently do not have running water.

“I am in constant communication with DEP and I will keep you updated as to the time estimated for completion and water restoration to those effected,” Deutsch adds.

The areas affected by the water shutdown include:

  • Oriental Boulevard between West End Avenue & Amherst Street
  • West End Avenue between Oriental Boulevard and Dead End

The below roads are currently closed for the repairs. The Council Member advises locals to plan their commutes accordingly.

  • West End Avenue from Sea Breeze Court to Oriental Boulevard
  • Oriental Boulevard from West End Avenue to Amherst Street
