Want To See Participatory Budgeting In Ditmas Park? Attend This Meeting On Wednesday, April 29
As area legislators, including Council Members Brad Lander and Jumaane Williams, announce the winners of their participatory budgeting initiatives — including air conditioning for schools, auditorium renovations, drainage for Prospect Park, and more much — many neighbors in Ditmas Park have asked: Why don’t we have this?
To help answer that question, the newly-launched Residents of District 40 for Participatory Budgeting is inviting all who are interested to the group’s meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, April 29, at the Cortelyou Library (1305 Cortelyou Road). The gathering will take place from 6:30-7:30pm.
The group recently formed to push Councilmen Mathieu Eugene, whose 40th Council District includes Ditmas Park, to implement participatory budgeting — a city program that allows residents to directly vote on funding for projects they’d like to see in their neighborhood. Eugene has not responded to repeated requests from Ditmas Park Corner about his willingness to adopt participatory budgeting.
During Wednesday evening’s meeting, members of the Residents of District 40 for Participatory Budgeting will be sharing information about participatory budgeting, and individuals involved with PB in other districts will be on hand to address questions about the initiative.
