Want A Book? Have One You’d Like To Share? Check Out Our Neighborhood’s New Little Free Library
After we learned of a fantastic new Little Free Library in our community, Milo and Margalit — two incredible neighbors who built and installed the library — wrote to us about the new addition that is wonderful news for Kensington bibliophiles!
Our names are Milo and Margalit, and we’re 11 years old. We recently built and painted a small wooden house called a Little Free Library. We installed the library on a post in our garden on East 4th Street between Caton Avenue and Ft. Hamilton Parkway, easily accessible from the sidewalk. We put in books that we don’t want anymore but think that others would like, and other people who want the books can take them or leave books if they want.
We noticed that a lot of people leave books out on their stoops and on the sidewalk, so we wanted an outlet for people to do this but still keep the neighborhood looking good. We think that making this library was a really good idea because it gives people happiness. We think that the library is charitable because no one needs to pay to get books that they might like, and the books don’t need to be returned. Because we painted it, it beautifies the neighborhood! Also, we wanted to do a community service project, and this is a good project because it gives all people a chance to read no matter what their situation is. It helps make our neighborhood a better place.
We think that the positive reaction has been great. We have seen people taking and returning books, and we have a lot of books we did not put in there. We also have a comment book in the library so people can tell us what they like and dislike about it. Some of the comments found in the book are:
“Thank you!”
“I LOVE this little library!”
“I love the free library. It adds so much charm to the neighborhood!”
“This is a good idea.”
Please come and visit our Little Free Library, and take a book or leave a book. Please leave us a comment to let us know what you think!
