Vote On Speed Humps In Windsor Terrace Next Week

After a heated meeting in August and a petition promoted by Council Member Brad Lander that has garnered over 300 signatures, Community Board 7 will be voting on the proposed new speed humps for Windsor Terrace next Tuesday, October 13 at 6:30pm at Holy Name Church (245 Prospect Park West at Prospect Avenue).

Lander is encouraging members of the community to attend the meeting if possible. If you are unable to attend the meeting, you can email your testimony in support of the speed humps directly to the community board at bk07@cb.nyc.gov. The Department of Transportation will only install the speed humps if the community board votes to approve them.

Resident Mary Jane Monahan, whose son was killed by a drunk driver on 19th Street in 2002, spoke in favor of putting in speed humps at the meeting.

“I don’t think there’s a perfect solution, but deterrents are necessary, speed humps are necessary,” she said.

“I know that speed humps aren’t always popular, but these specific requests for speed humps had a lot of local support,” said Lander in an email to constituents. “It is true that many people fear that the speed humps will be noisy, or will cause damage to their homes, but speed humps are incredibly effective tools when it comes to slowing vehicle speeds and improving street safety.”
