Vote Now: Which Flag Better Represents Fort Greene?

FAB Fulton reminded us over the weekend of Industry City-based UncommonGoods‘ Brooklyn neighborhood flag design contest, which as it turns out, will wrap up by midnight tonight! At this point, Fort Greene is down to two potential flags: neighbor Jeff Lilley‘s bold and graphic rendering of the neighborhood’s trees, architecture, and Prison Ship Martyrs Monument, and neighbor Wai Cheung’s silhouetted, park-focused design.

“Four years ago I moved from Prospect Heights to Fort Greene,” Jeff says in his statement about the flag. “At the time I didn’t think there was a neighborhood in Brooklyn I could love as much as the one I was leaving. I was wrong. With one of the most amazing parks in New York City as its centerpiece, Fort Greene is a neighborhood of cultural diversity, beautiful brownstones, and naval history. It’s the best neighborhood in Brooklyn, and I’m pretty sure anyone who came here would quickly feel the same.”

“I’ve been living in Fort Greene for the past four years and have moved around a couple of times within,” says Wait. “No matter where I move, the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument located in Fort Greene Park has always been a central point for me. Walking home from the subway station, when I see the monument, I know I’m home.”

As of press time, Jeff’s flag has received 39 votes, while Wai’s has 52. Clinton Hill has no designs in the running.

Which Fort Greene design do you prefer? If you’d like to have a say in the final decision, cast your vote tonight.
