Are you an artist who can also whip up an impressive one-pot meal? If so, be sure to sign up for Open Source Gallery’s fifth annual soup kitchen.

Starting December 8 and continuing throughout the month for as many days as they have volunteers, the nonprofit community art house will invite “neighbors, artists, and others who are down on their luck or simply hungry” to a warm, free meal from 7pm – 9pm. Food is available on a first come, first serve basis and all are welcome.

Open Source will provide cookware and utensils for volunteers to create a meal for 15-20 people. In addition, the chef of the night must incorporate an artistic element into the evening.

In the past, participants have displayed photographs on the walls, read monologues, or played music. While the volunteers do not necessarily have to be artists, it is encouraged and provides a good opportunity for artists to talk about, receive feedback, and gain exposure for their work. Not a traditional soup kitchen, this event focuses on conversation, community, and art.
