Head out to Marine Park this Saturday night to watch the stars take flight across the sky.

The Perseid meteor shower puts on a spectacular show every summer. The dazzling stream of cosmic debris usually peaks around mid-August, and the best places for urban stargazing are city parks.

Park Rangers will be on hand near East 33rd Street and Avenue U from 9pm until 11pm to guide you through the experience and discuss the science, folklore and history of the galaxy. Bring out folding chairs, blankets and beverages and enjoy a warm summer evening with the stars.

You don’t need any equipment to view this nighttime wonder — the Perseids are one of the brightest meteor showers to occur every year. On a clear evening, you can often see at least 50 meteors streaking across the the sky every hour.

Weather on Saturday is expected to be partly cloudy during the day but will clear during the evening.
