Video Released Of Suspect In Today’s Beverley Road Slashing

[Editor’s note: We clarified the text below to indicate that there is no leading theory as to the motive of the attacker in this case. 3/11/16; 12pm]

Cops have released video footage of the suspect wanted in the slashing of a 53-year-old woman on Beverley Road this morning.

The suspect approached the woman from behind at about 9:45am as she was walking eastbound on Beverly Road, between Argyle Road and Rugby Road, and slashed her in the neck with a knife, said police.

In the surveillance  video — which was taken from a neighbor’s front porch — the suspect is seen fleeing the crime scene. One possibility is that the attack is gang-related, perhaps an initiation of some sort, sources at the 70th Precinct said. But they stressed that this is one theory among many, and they are still trying to determine whether there is a connection between the victim and her attacker.

It is the most recent in a series of violent crimes in the area this week. A 14-year-old boy was stabbed on Argyle Road on Sunday night, and two other victims were stabbed in separate incidents on Wednesday night in Prospect Park. A suspect who may be responsible for the Prospect Park crimes has been arrested, according to cops.

EMS responded at this morning’s scene and transported the woman to Maimonides Hospital. She is currently in stable condition, the NYPD said.

The suspect is described by police as a black man, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants. He was wearing an American flag bandana over his mouth and nose during the attack. He believed to be between 25- and 30-years-old, a detective at the 70th Precinct said.

Anyone with information in regards to today’s incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
