The United States Post Office is looking at 609 Myrtle Avenue as a new location for the Pratt Station Post Office – five blocks away from its current location at 524 Myrtle Avenue.

Last spring, the developer Silverstone Property Group purchased the buildings on the Pratt Station Post Office block and announced they would not renew the lease for the post office. The USPS informed Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams that the proposed location, on Myrtle Avenue at the corner of Kent Avenue, was selected out of eight possible locations on Myrtle, Flushing and Clinton Avenues, Steuben Street and in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Post office officials, politicians and locals discussed future plans for the Pratt Station Post Office at a Community Board 2 meeting in September.

“I received a number of comments from merchants on Myrtle Avenue that stressed the importance of the post office staying on Myrtle Avenue, and it’s my impression that the post office has done its best to include that preference in its selection,” said Rob Perris, district manager for Community Board 2.

Perris added that the new location will not house letter sorting facilities, but residents will still be able to pick up their mail in a timely fashion.

Locals have 30 days to write to Joseph J. Mulvey at United State Postal Service, 2 Congress Street, Room 8, Milford, MA 01757. Perris also said community members can email him comments at cb2k@nyc.rr.com.
