Updated 9:46pm: A previous version of this story stated the victim was riding a bicycle. Police say that they released this information erroneously, and that the victim was actually on foot.

Cops say a pedestrian was killed in an apparent hit-and-run earlier this morning.

The incident took place near the intersection of 5th Avenue and 9th Street at approximately 5:00am on Sunday, February 28, according to police.

The police arrived at the scene to discover a 41-year-old male with severe trauma to the body who was unconscious and unresponsive.

EMS brought the victim to Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Cops say the victim was struck by a gold-colored Toyota Camry. The car did not remain on the scene.

There are no arrests at this time and the investigation is ongoing by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad.

The identity of the deceased is pending after the victim’s family is notified.
