Update: Sheepshead HS Student Shot Near School

We reported last night about a shooting in the Nostrand Housing Projects at 3023 Avenue X.

The Daily News is reporting that the 17-year-old victim, a Sheepshead Bay High School student, was caught in the crossfire as the gunman’s intended target ran past her into the building. Although the victim’s identity has not yet been verified by authorities, the Daily News says neighbors identified her as Kathy Young, a freshman at the school located just across the street from the incident. Neighbors also say the girl’s mother died recently.

Young is currently in stable condition at Kings County Hospital and is expected to recover from her wounds. There is still no word on whether the suspect is in custody.
