Upcoming Literary Events In Ditmas Park
Lovers of the written word, you’re in luck: there are a number of literary events happening in our neighborhood, including tomorrow’s free reading by local author Dan Bodah (who you may know from WFMU Airborne Events) at the Cortelyou Library (1305 Cortelyou Road) at 12pm.
As part of the Cortelyou Library Friends’ reading series, Dan will give us a sampling from his most recent book of poetry, Eyes & Roots, at the event, which will be be held in the library’s meeting room. All are welcome to attend.
Then, on Tuesday, September 9, local author Rachel Sherman, will begin teaching her fall fiction writing workshop at Lark Café (1005 Church Avenue). The workshop will be held from 7:30pm to 9:30pm each week for 10 weeks, and it costs $450 or $425 for returning students. Rachel’s class will be “structured around in-class discussions of your work” and will “focus on outline, structure, plot, narrative, dialogue, pacing, and content. You will receive written critiques and edits from me as well as your peers.”
Rachel points out on her website that this is an open class for both beginning writers and writers who currently have a novel or short story in progress. For more information, contact Rachel at rachel@rachelsherman.net.
On Sunday, September 14, from 5-7pm, the second season of Lit at Lark kicks off at Lark Café, and the free literary extravaganza will include readings from New York Times bestseller Miranda Beverly-Whittemore and debut novelists Siobhan Adcock and Vica Miller.
At the event, Lark will offer a happy hour drink special, and the readings will be followed by an informal, salon-style chat.
We’re always on the lookout for creative happenings in our neighborhood, so if you know of any upcoming ones, send us an email at editor@ditmasparkcorner.com.
