Neither the 88-year-old victim nor the police could find any reasoning for the Nostrand Avenue attack that took place on Friday.

At around 5pm, the woman, who is approaching her ninetieth year, was walking and minding her own business in front of Esther’s Deli at 3664 Nostrand Ave, when the assailant came up to her from behind and pushed her to the ground, according to police.

The senior citizen tried to break her fall by putting her hands out, but she, unfortunately, fractured both of her wrists, authorities said. She was brought to Mt. Sinai Hospital in stable condition. According to the victim’s granddaughter, she also broke her shoulder and injured her hip.

After the senseless assault, the suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction, according to police.

“It was completely unprovoked,” said an NYPD spokesperson.

The assailant is described as a female, black or Hispanic, with a dark colored ponytail, glasses, and was last seen wearing a gray hat, white t-shirt, gray sweatshirt, beige sweater and brown work boots, police said.

Surveillance cameras at Esther’s Deli took pictures of her before she fled. She is shown above, smiling.
