The animals at the Prospect Park Zoo have been very good all year and are now getting their holiday gifts. And once again, the zoo is giving everyone else the wonderful gift of allowing us to watch it happen.

“Presents to the Animals” events occur every weekend in December, at 11am and 2:30pm, with each session showcasing different animals tearing into treat-filled, holiday-themed enrichment items.

The schedule is as follows:

December 6/7: Dingoes (morning), Pallas’ cats (afternoon)
December 13/14: North American river otters (morning), Dwarf mongoose (afternoon)
December 20/21: Hamadryas baboons (morning), Meerkats (afternoon)
December 27/28: Hamadryas baboons (morning), Geoffrey marmosets (afternoon)

If you’re planning to check it out, consider bringing up a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the Wildlife Conservation Society toy drive. The toys can be dropped at the park entrance and will be collected through December 31. For every toy given, you’ll receive one free general admission to the New York Aquarium. Donations from Prospect Park will go to families in need within neighboring community.

The Prospect Park Zoo is located at 450 Flatbush Avenue in Prospect Park, and is open 10am-5pm weekdays and to 5:30pm on weekends and holidays, April through October; 10am-4:30pm November through March. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for kids 3-12, and free for children under 3.
