Two fast-footed PS 107 students got ahead of the competition at this year’s Reindeer Run in Prospect Park.

On Saturday, December 6, the New York Road Runners hosted the annual Jingle Bell Jog, which was preceded by the three-quarter-mile Reindeer Run, in which more than 500 kids ages 7-12 raced — including PS 107’s 10-year-old 5th graders Marty Radwell and Madeline Novatt.

The two runners have both been Mighty Milers for five consecutive years, participating in the NYRR program that provides structure and fun for kids of all fitness levels. But this year in particular, they’ve already accomplished quite a bit — following the Reindeer Run, both Marty and Madeline were honored with their first Marathon of Miles medals, presented for running 26.2 cumulative miles since the school year began!

Congrats to Marty and Madeline, and to all the kids who finished the Reindeer Run, and all the grown-ups who ran the Jungle Bell Jog! The annual event — where even NY1 anchor Pat Kiernan was on hand to cheer on the runners — is a fundraiser for NYRR’s youth programs, which this year helped to raise more than $300,000 for Mighty Milers and Young Runners.

Do you know a neighbor who’s accomplished something awesome recently? We’d love to share the news! Let us know about them at editor@bklyner.com.
