Two People Hit By Cars In Separate Kensington Crashes
A 12-year-old student was hit by a car Wednesday morning, next to the Dome Playground in Kensington.
The boy was riding his bicycle to yeshiva, and was struck by a Lexus near Cortelyou Road and Dahill Road, just before 7am on September 14, said cops. Police believe that the driver, 24, hit him by accident.
The boy was rushed to Maimonides Hospital where he is being treated for severe head trauma, and remains in critical condition, according to police.
“He’s in surgery at the hospital now. He’s with his father and grandparents,” said Rabbi Jack Mayer as he held a crushed bike black helmet at the scene, reports DNAinfo.
Unfortunately the boy wasn’t the only person struck by a car this morning in the 66th Precinct in Kensington.
A man was hit crossing East 4th Street at Beverley Road around 8:30am, according to FDNY.
Neighbor Lela Moore, who witnessed the crash, said:
“[The] light turned green to cross East 4th Street (so cars on Beverley had the green). The guy stepped into crosswalk and I had just stepped off curb when a minivan turned right off Beverley directly into the guy, without slowing down at all.”
The driver had his kids in his back seat, Moore added.
The victim was rushed to Maimonides Hospital with serious — but not life threatening — injuries, said an FDNY spokesperson.
The neighborhood is no stranger to dangerous crashes — earlier this year a 71-year-old man was struck by a van on Beverley Road and Ocean Avenue; last month a hit-and-run driver injured a young boy crossing the street in Borough Park; and in 2014 a Kensington teen was killed by a hit-and-run driver on East 7th Street.
