Two separate incidents of gun violence claimed two lives in Bed-Stuy over the weekend, police confirmed, including the son of an aide to the Brooklyn Borough President.

The first shooting took place around 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 2, at Hancock Street and Spencer Place, near the John Hancock Playground’s basketball courts.

Officers, arriving to the scene, found 22-year old Lester Jack unconscious and unresponsive on the ground with a gunshot wound to the torso, police said.

Nearby, another man lay on the ground, 29-year old who had been shot in the buttocks.

Responding EMS transported Jack to Interfaith Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased, police said. The second victim was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Lester Jack’s mother works for Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, in the Office of the Senior Advisor.

“A member of our Brooklyn Borough Hall family has lost one of their own. We share in mourning the life that gun violence tragically claimed yesterday afternoon in Bed-Stuy,” Adams said in a statement. “I am as resolute as ever to combat this epidemic that has deeply hurt so many of us.”

Unfortunately, 36 hours later, someone else in the same neighborhood was dead from gun violence.

The second shooting of the long weekend took place just before 4:00 am on Tuesday, September 4, in front of 585 Park Avenue, at the Marcy Houses, police said.

Police responded to a 911 call, arriving at the scene to find two men who had suffered gunshot wounds.

A 45-year old was found unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest, while a 36-year old had been grazed in the wrist.

EMS transported the 45-year old to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, police said. The 36-year old was treated for his injured wrist at the scene.

The identity of the deceased has yet to be released, pending family notification.

So far, there have been no arrests in either case, police said, but investigations into both shootings have been opened.
