Truck Fatally Strikes Woman In Canarsie

CANARSIE – A 64-year-old woman was fatally struck by a box truck backing out of a loading area at a Canarsie parking lot yesterday afternoon, the NYPD reports.

At approximately 4pm on Monday, October 16, police responded to a call of a vehicle accident at 10110 Foster Avenue near East 99th Street. A preliminary investigation determined that the 30-year-old driver of the truck struck the woman as he was backing out of the garage area of the parking lot, police say.

The woman was an employee at Jetro Wholesale Groceries Service and Supplies located on Foster Avenue, according to the New York Daily News. The paper reports that she tried to maneuver between the truck and the door of a loading bay when she fell and one of the wheels of the truck ran over her.

EMS pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The driver remained on the scene and no arrests have been made.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending family notification.
