Neighbors reported downed power lines, flooded streets, and fallen trees all over southern Brooklyn Monday afternoon, after a torrential downpour swamped the area at around 5pm.

On Avenue X and Avenue Y, on the “East” streets in Gravesend, residents say they were left in the dark for several hours Monday evening, though power was restored late last night.

There were also traffic light outages on Stilwell Avenue, 86th Street and Neptune Avenue, and Con Edison is still working on the problem, Councilman Mark Treyger has confirmed.

“I’ve also been emailing photos and details of flooded streets and intersections in our neighborhood to DEP. I have requested that the catch basins be inspected as well as the sewer outfalls,” Treyger wrote on Facebook Monday evening.

Con Edison confirmed that at least 400 homes in Manhattan Beach were also without electricity Monday evening, according to an email from Councilman Chaim Deutsch.

The flooding made for some dramatic photos. This one, submitted by reader Crafty Carol, shows her overflowing backyard.
