Yesterday was a windy day, no doubt. But was it windy enough to blow decades-old trees to the ground?

In one incident, a tree fell onto a parked car on East 29 Street between Avenues X and Y. According to the Parks Department, the tree fell because the roots were cut. Parks cleared the area and are currently investigating what happened.

A reader of ours, Boris Zhukovskiy, said that repairs were being conducted in the ground near the tree. Cement was taken up, but the tree wasn’t secured, according to Zhukovskiy.

No one was hurt in that incident.

In a separate occurrence, a tree toppled on East 17 Street and Avenue U, also crushing a car beneath it. This tree’s demise came as no surprise to residents in the area who told News 12 that they had been complaining about the tree’s health ever since numerous branches launched from it during Superstorm Sandy.

The people who live on the street estimated the tree to be at least 100 years old.

Power went out after the tree fell on East 17 Street for at least one ConEd customer, according to a ConEd spokesperson.

No one was hurt in the East 17 Street incident either, which residents said was a miracle.

Keep your eyes on the sky, folks, trees are falling left and right.
