Traffic Lights Or Speed Humps The Answer To Traffic In Windsor Terrace?

After a car collision at 8th Avenue and Windsor Place a few weeks ago, many readers commented about the need for a traffic light at the intersection.

We checked in with the DOT, who told us that residents can request the installation of a traffic signal by writing to the Commissioner.

If there is enough interest, the DOT conducts an intersection control study to determine if traffic signals or multi-way stop signs are appropriate for a location. The study includes conducting a field investigation and creating a condition diagram of the location, as well as doing manual counts of vehicles and pedestrians using the intersection. The DOT then compares all the data collected to the Federal guidelines to determine whether a traffic light is needed.

If the data does not meet the Federal guidelines, the DOT will not install a traffic signal or multi-way stop sign and looks for other ways to improve traffic conditions.

Now, the DOT is scheduled to unveil a plan to add speed humps to many streets in the area, including several humps on Windsor Place, at the Community Board 7 Transportation Committee meeting on August 3, according to DNAinfo. Community Board 7 will also hold a public meeting on the proposal in September.

Do you think speed bumps will help with traffic in the area? Or is more needed?
