Tonight: Community Board 15 To Discuss Green Zoning Changes
Community Board 15 will meet tonight, January 31, at 7:00 p.m. at Kingsborough Community College’s faculty dining room (2001 Oriental Boulevard).
During the meeting, Chairperson Theresa Scavo will give a report outlining the Zone Green Text Amendment. The change in zoning laws are meant to “remove zoning impediments to the construction and retrofitting of green buildings,” according to the Department of City Planning’s website. “This proposal would give owners more choices for the investments they can make to save energy, save money, and improve environmental performance.”
The amendment was referred to the city’s community boards and stakeholders in December, giving them 60 days to review it and offer input. Afterwards, it moves to the City Planning Commission and City Council for final review.
Also on the agenda are four zoning items, all for special permits to allow families to enlarge their homes. The addresses are:
- 1944 East 12th Street
- 215 Exeter Street
- 2070 East 21st Street
- 1913 East 28th Street.
Aside from that, the Community Board will hear residents’ concerns, and local elected officials will give updates on their efforts to represent their constituents.
