Tonight: Speak up for the Department of Education’s planned rezoning for neighboring elementary schools at P.S. 139, P.S. 134, P.S. 217, P.S. 245, P.S.152, P.S. 315, and the upcoming P.S. K338.The Community District Education Council 22 (CDEC22) Zoning Outreach Meeting will be held on Monday, September 26, from 6pm to 8pm at P.S. 217 (1100 Newkirk Avenue).Neighbors have been calling and emailing us today to reiterate how important the event is for schools in our community.Kate Slevin writes:

The planned District 22 rezoning would remove a bunch of the big coop buildings along East 18th and East 19th Streets from the PS 217 school district and put them in the PS 152 district. Many parent association members live in these affected coops and this plan is a big deal for the neighborhood. For 217, it would suck resources and involved parents from the school and reduce diversity at the school.

The Community District Education Council 22 told DPC that tonight’s meeting will include a presentation by the DOE planning office followed by open Q & A from attendees.Stay tuned for the DPC coverage of the meeting tomorrow.Interpretation services for tonight’s meeting will be available in Mandarin, Cantonese, Urdu, Bengali, Russian, Spanish and Haitian Creole.
