Tomorrow: Weekend Walks Brings Outdoor Movie, Dining & More To Cortelyou; Road Will Be Closed To Cars
This Saturday, July 11, the city Department of Transportation, the Flatbush Development Corporation and local merchants are teaming up to put on the Weekend Walks event, during which there will be outdoor dining, family activities and an outdoor screening of “Back to the Future.”
The event will kick off around 5pm and last until about 10pm, during which time Cortelyou Road, from Coney Island Avenue to E. 17th Street, will be closed to vehicles. Cross streets will remain open.
The evening’s festivities include:
- The Brooklyn ARTery will sponsor caricatures by Kenly Dillard, 5-7pm.
- Cortelyou merchants will set up displays and merchandise on the sidewalk, 5-10pm.
- Outdoor dining at restaurants along Cortelyou.
- Live performances from Latin Fever Dance Studio
- Haircut specials from Junior’s Barber Shop (they’ll set up barber chairs outside and do special designs for kids).
- A bounce house for kids, 6:30-8:30pm.
- An outdoor showing of “Back to the Future” at Cortelyou & E. 17th (during which there will be free popcorn provided by the Flatbush Food Co-op). Neighbors are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets. 8:30pm.
