Time to don your running shoes, assemble the spectator squads, or plan for traffic detours.

The second annual Rock ‘n’ Rock Brooklyn Half Marathon is tomorrow, Saturday, October 8 from 7am until 11am. The sold-out race will bring 17,500 runners to Prospect Park and Ocean Parkway, along with live music blasting throughout the race course.

Runners will start their 13.1-mile journey at the Brooklyn Museum, and travel down Washington and Ocean Avenues past the Prospect Park Zoo, through the parade grounds, down Ocean Parkway to Avenue P and then return to Prospect Park on Ocean Parkway, cutting through the inner park loop for a grand finish near the Neathermeade field. Check out the full course map here.

But the real heart and ‘sole’ of this marathon will be the live music stationed along every mile — spectators and runners can rock out to live bands performing at mini-stages along the route, including various points along Ocean Parkway. At the finish line, runners will be greeted by the band Here We Go Magic performing a concert in Prospect Park.

Drivers, avoid the inevitable street-closure and parking headaches by planning ahead: Ocean Parkway and Park Circle will be closed on Saturday, October 8 from 6am until 11:30am. More road closures below (see the full list here):

  • Flatbush Avenue from Ocean Avenue to Eastern Parkway, from 4am until 10am.
  • Ocean Avenue, southbound side, from Flatbush Avenue to Parkside Avenue, from 6am until 10am.
  • Parkside Avenue, southbound side, from Ocean Avenue to Park Circle, from 6am to 10:15am.
  • Park Circle, from Parkside Avenue to Ocean Parkway, from 6am to 11:30am.
  • Ocean Parkway inner lanes, from Park Circle to Avenue P,  from 6am to 11:30am.
  • Eastern Parkway from Grand Army Plaza to Kingston Avenue, from 3am to 9:30am.
  • Empire Boulevard from Washington Avenue to Flatbush Avenue, from 6am to 9:30am.

In addition, there will be no parking on many race course streets, beginning on Wednesday, October 5 and ending at 12pm on Saturday, October 8.

So far the weather forecast looks perfect for a brisk autumn morning — cloudy with highs in the sixties.

Good luck to all the runners, from Brooklyn and around the globe!
