The Flatbush Development Corporation’s Flatbush Youth Council will hold a “Stop the Violence Peace Rally” outside the FDC’s office at 1616 Newkirk Avenue, between E. 16th and E. 17th Streets, tomorrow, Friday, July 17, from 3-6pm.

Neighbors of all ages are welcome to attend the rally, which follows a series of murders and shootings in our community, including a fatal shooting at Newkirk and E. 17th yesterday morning. During tomorrow’s event, everyone is invited to contribute to a sidewalk mural advocating for peace in our neighborhood, as well as other pieces of art that will be hung in businesses along Newkirk Avenue.

“Everyone has noticed there’s been a lot of shootings, and they want to do a peace rally,” Keith Rogers, who leads the Flatbush Youth Council, said of neighborhood teens. “Most of them live in this area, and they feel like enough is enough.”

FDC Executive Director Robin Redmond noted that many of our younger neighbors are committed to creating peace in our neighborhood.

“People need to see teenagers care about this,” she said.
