Tires Left On Argyle & What To Do About Illegal Dumping

A neighbor noticed these tires dumped on Argyle Road between Cortelyou and Beverley over the weekend, and today, they were stacked with the trash in front of PS 139.

Though the tires may have come from somewhere else completely, this isn’t the only sanitation issue plaguing PS 139 as of late. Just last week, miscommunication with the city kept garbage from being picked up for several days in a row–though the situation had been resolved last we heard.

If you see dumping in progress on Argyle, or anywhere else for that matter, do not make your presence known–simply record details about the vehicle being used (license plate number, make, model, color, etc.), what type of material is being dumped, and when it’s happening.

Call 911 for a dumping in progress, or file a complaint with 311 if you only see it after the fact. You can also call 311 for assistance moving a large amount of dumped material from a public space.

In addition, the Illegal Dumping Tip Program awards up to 50% of fines collected (which range from $1,500-20,000 for a single individual dumping and up to $40,000 when more than one person is involved) to people who help find offenders.

Have you noticed more than just this most recent dumping on Argyle, or dumping elsewhere in the neighborhood?
