This Year In The 66th Precinct: Murder And Felony Assault Drop, Uptick In Robbery And Grand Larceny & More

The officer from the 66th Precinct who used to prepare the Kensington felony report has been reassigned. Although I ask frequently about updates and her replacement, so far I’ve received no definitive answer from the 66th about either.

So, instead, below are the crime statistics issued by the NYPD for all of Kensington, Midwood, and Borough Park under the 66 Precinct’s jurisdiction from December 15 through December 21. Each week, the 66th Precinct posts crime statistics, which you can view here.

As you can see, felony crime in general has dropped 5.32 percent since the same time last year, with the number of murders dropping from six at this time last year to one currently and grand larceny auto plummeting 35.8 percent, going from 137 incidents to 88 incidents. Felony assault has also dropped, decreasing from 143 reports at this time last year to the current 110. The number of burglary reports have decreased slightly.

There has been an increase in the number of rapes, going from 7 last year to the 8 reported as of the 21st, as well as a slight uptick in robbery. The number of grand larcenies has increased 4.3 percent, from 467 last year to 487 this year.
