REGIONAL HIGHLIGHTS

Movies @ The Library
When: Wednesday, October 14, 4pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue, Park Slope
What: Bring the children to relax at the library for a bit with a kid-friendly flick.

First Five Years Kids Create: Make A Face!
When: Thursday, October 15, 4pm
Where: Clinton Hill Library, 380 Washington Avenue
What: Kids from birth to age five (and their caregivers) will get into some easy crafts — this time, making funny faces out of ordinary objects.

Ezra Jack Keats Bedtime Stories
When: Thursday, October 15, 7pm
Where: Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza, Park Slope
What: Enjoy Ezra Jack Keats-themed stories, songs, and activities — plus, each child will go home with one of the author’s books.

Mythic Meal
Where: JJ Byrne Playground, 336 3rd Street, Park Slope
When: Saturday, October 17, 10am-12pm
What: Mmmm, pancakes! Come stuff yourself silly at this “friendraiser” breakfast that will support the playground. In the holiday spirit, kids are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite characters, bring costumes to swap, get their faces painted, and make banners for the Halloween Parade along 5th Avenue later this month.
How Much: $10 for adults, $5 for kids; plus, mimosas available for a little more!

Great American Book Drive
Where: Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza
When: Saturday, October 17, 10am-3pm
What: Got a voracious little reader? Grab books for $1, plus hear live music, and enjoy crafts, and all for a good cause, as the Brooklyn Public Library will get part of every sale. Got books to unload? You can drop off donations at the library anytime leading up to the event!
How Much: Free admission.

Story Time: Michael Gervais
When: Saturday, October 17, 11am
Where: Greenlight Bookstore, 686 Fulton Street, Fort Greene
What: Local author Michael Gervais, a teacher at Fort Greene’s Community Roots Charter School, will present his new book, The Barefoot Champion, with an interactive story time reading for kids ages 3-8, and will work with them on a craft designing their own basketball shoes.

Introduction To Bird Watching
Where: Audubon Center in Prospect Park
When: Saturdays & Sundays through November, 12-1pm
What: Fall is an awesome time to spot birds that are migrating through Brooklyn’s big backyard! Enjoy a tour by a pro from the Brooklyn Bird Club, and let the kids ask them all the questions they want.

Calpulli Youth Dance
When: Saturday, October 17, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: The youth members of this group, outfitted in traditional costumes, will perform selections from different regions of Mexico-Jalisco, set to the music of the mariachi.

Sunday Story Time: Gianna Marino
When: Sunday, October 11, 11:30am
Where: PowerHouse on 8th, 1111 8th Avenue, South Slope
What: Come hang with the author of Night Animals, about a bunch of critters who are scared of the creatures that go bump in the night (even though, really, that’s them!).

Sing Along With Amy Miles
When: Sunday, October 18, 10am
Where: Lark Cafe, 1007 Church Avenue, Ditmas Park
What: The busy Brooklyn composer and performer plays original and cover songs on guitar, ukulele, and percussive things, singing stories with puppets and bubbles, for a fun interactive show.

Teen Tech Time

Where: Clinton Hill Library at 380 Washington Avenue
What: Come play video games and board games. Hang out, try out some games you haven’t played before, and meet new friends while you’re at it! Wii games and board games. No registration or experience necessary.

Reading Is Fundamental
When: Wednesday, October 14 at 2:30pm
Where: Walt Whitman Library at 93 Saint Edwards Street
What: Earn free books by joining RIF and checking out books with library card. Ages 6-18.

Sing With Me

What: Sing, dance, laugh, and make music with your little one. Ages four months to four years.

Stutengarten Brooklyn

What: Come help us think up new things to build – towers, house, cities, vehicles, monsters? Collaborate with your friends and get creative. Babies, toddlers, and preschoolers will also have their own play area at the library with DUPLO blocks galore!

Cat Cafe Hours
When: Saturdays through October 24 from 2-8pm
Where: The Cat’s Meow at 354 Myrtle Avenue
What: Pop-up cat cafe! Play with cats and consider adopting one or more. $5 per half hour. Drinks and snacks allowed from Red Lantern Bicycles and Brooklyn Sweet Shop. Most proceeds to Brooklyn Bridge Animal Rescue Coalition.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18

Free Movie
When: Sunday, October 18 at 8pm
Where: The Joint on Myrtle at 471 Myrtle Avenue
What: Free movie for the family, every weekend. Free popcorn and kitchen open until 11pm. Call 347-763-1455 to find out what movie is playing. Suggest your favorite movie for a future screening!

MONDAY, OCTOBER 19

Preschool Storytime
When: Monday, October 19 at 10:30am
Where: Clinton Hill Library at 380 Washington Avenue
What: A read-aloud for preschool-aged kids. Groups and classes are welcome to attend (please contact the children’s librarian, Emily Heath, at 718-398-8713 to let us know ahead of time that you will be bringing a group, if possible.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20

Baby Breakfast
When: Tuesday, October 20 from 10am-12pm
Where: Habana Outpost at 757 Fulton Street
What: The courtyard is transformed into an into a toddler wonderland complete with toys, a water table and supervised art projects geared towards children 4 and under. Come meet your neighbors and watch your kids make new friends.
How much: Free, rain or shine.

Homework Help
When: Tuesday, October 20 at 3pm

What: Get homework help for children in grades k-8.

Read To Me
When: Tuesday, October 20 at 3:30pm
Where: Walt Whitman Library at 93 Saint Edwards Street
What: Kids ages 8-12 practice reading aloud.  Vocabulary, comprehension, pronounciation and annunciation are emphasized.
