Family Program: Gender Identity
When: Saturday, October 17 from 2:30-5:30pm
Where: Brooklyn Museum at 200 Eastern Parkway
What: Drawing inspiration from the exhibition Zanele Muholi: Isibonelo/Evidence, this interactive program for children and families challenges binary conceptions of gender. Includes story time and pretend-play for children 5 and under, and a workshop introducing the language of identity for children 6 to 12. Developed in partnership with the Ackerman Institute’s Gender & Family Project. Families are invited to a reception immediately following the program (4:15–5:30 p.m.).
How much: Free with Museum admission, but space is limited, so please R.S.V.P.

A former member of the much-loved New York City-based Brazilian Brazooka Band and frequent collaborator with Grammy-winning guitarist Ricardo Vogt, Nunes comes to BAMcafé with a mix of original compositions and elegant reinterpretations of classics by legends like Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento.

Panel Discussion: The Cape Dorset Print Legacy

What: Since the 1950s, the groundbreaking Kinngait Studios in Cape Dorset, Canada, has played a central role in fostering and promoting Canadian Inuit art, primarily through its renowned annual Cape Dorset print collection. Join us for this discussion with artists, curators, and collectors about the legacy of the Studios and the Cape Dorset collection, and about Inuit art within the broader context of contemporary art worldwide.

“When We Were Soldiers… once and young (WWWS) / The Heart of Darkness”
When: September 19 through October 24
Where: Brooklyn Navy Yard Hospital
What: Photographic installation by German artist and social activist Bettina WitteVeen. Presented as a visual poem, WWWS will weave together over 100 black and white and color analog photographs culled from historic archives, sculptures in the form of large crosses and a walk-in altar with a sound installation. The installation, including WitteVeen’s wide-ranging and visually rich photographs, will philosophically and artistically explore the depth of humanity’s collective shadow as it finds its ultimate expression in war and genocide.
