Where: JACK at 505 1/2 Waverly Avenue
What: An epic three-part operetta. It begins at a bus stop and winds up in a chicken factory, capturing the past century in a day. Three actresses play 12 roles, conjuring a bombastic reality of coffee prisons, waahr, car seats sinking in mud and unmanned umbrellas falling from the sky. The piece is largely a meditation on imprisonment, transformation and the necessity to go away and get lost every now and then. Overall the play is teeming with loudness and grit, harsh images and blunt suffering, yet there is an equal dose of goof, absurdity and inwardness simultaneously at work. There is also much singing—the songs never let up—and by the end the piece is practically an opera.
